Molecular distillation is a specialized liquid-liquid separation apparatus. Unlike conventional distillation, which depends on boiling point differentials for separation, this technology leverages variances in the mean free path of distinct substances. As a liquid mixture flows along the inner wall of the main evaporator and is heated, light and heavy molecules escape the liquid surface to enter the gas phase. Owing to their differing free paths, light molecules travel far enough to reach the evaporator’s built-in condensate pipe, where they are collected, while heavy molecules fall short and are discharged with the residual mixture, enabling effective material separation.
Operating Principle
Materials are transferred from the feed tank to the jacketed main evaporator, which maintains constant heating. An integrated scraper uniformly spreads the material into a thin, flowing liquid film for rapid evaporation. Light component vapors form and adhere to the built-in condensing coil, then flow down the coil’s outer wall into a collection vessel. Meanwhile, heavy components travel along the main evaporator’s inner wall to a separate collection vessel.
