description

This laboratory-scale gas scrubber is engineered for a wide range of air and exhaust purification tasks. The gas scrubbing process begins as exhaust gases enter the round-bottom flask’s inlet and travel upward through the absorption column. Scrubbing fluid is pumped from the round-bottom flask to the shower head adapter, then flows counter-current to the exhaust gas through the packed column—enabling thorough, intimate contact between the two phases. The system can operate via positive pressure flow using a carrier gas such as nitrogen, or by connecting a vacuum source to the column adapter.

features

1. Equipped with a high-vacuum ball ground joint for excellent airtightness

2. Effectively prevents backflow of absorbent materials

3. Integrated glass packing for enhanced gas-liquid contact efficiency

4. High-performance water spray system for uniform and thorough coverage

Workflow Operation

Once the circulation pump is activated, absorption liquid is pumped from the round-bottom flask through the condensation line to the shower head. It is then sprayed downward from the tower cap through the absorption tower, re-entering the absorption tank where it interacts with the glass packing-filled liquid. This ensures full gas-liquid mixing to achieve efficient absorption. For high-temperature exhaust gases, connect a condensation pipe to cool the absorption liquid. The system supports active absorption modes, including using nitrogen as a carrier gas or guiding flow via a vacuum source.

Precautions

Select the appropriate scrubbing liquid based on the properties of the target gas and its impurities. Alkaline solutions (e.g., sodium hydroxide) are ideal for acidic impurities; acidic solutions (e.g., chromic acid solution) suit alkaline impurities; oxidizing solutions (e.g., potassium permanganate) are recommended for oxidizable impurities. When choosing a scrubbing solution, ensure the following two criteria are met:

① The solute in the solution must react chemically with the impurity gas, converting it into a precipitate or soluble substance. Alternatively, the solvent should fully dissolve the impurity gas to remove it effectively.

② The primary gas must have low solubility in the solution and not be significantly absorbed. For example, washing chlorine containing hydrogen chloride with saturated brine dissolves most HCl while leaving chlorine largely unabsorbed, as chlorine has limited solubility in saturated brine. Another example: using concentrated sodium bicarbonate to purify carbon dioxide with HCl impurities—HCl reacts fully with sodium bicarbonate, while CO₂ does not react and has low solubility in the solution. Avoid using sodium carbonate solution, as CO₂ will react with it to form sodium bicarbonate, leading to unwanted absorption of the primary gas.
